Physical Freedom Method

Physical Freedom Method is a practice through which we bring awareness and intention to our movements with a goal of increasing our connectedness, vitality, and full expression as living beings. Consisting of readings, lectures, movement meditations, and flow exercises, Physical Freedom Method is like a users manual for having—and being—a body. Whether you are looking to relieve pain, increase performance, or get out of your head, the experiential lessons of Physical Freedom Method will bring you the awareness you need to feel more at home in your body.

What to Expect

The Physical Freedom Method curriculum is available online and in person. While the method includes essential aspects of Pilates, yoga, Bartenieff Fundamentals, and other somatic approaches, it differs from most physical practices because you do not learn the method by copying others. The movement meditations use sensory awareness and imagery to motivate movement. To get the full benefit of Physical Freedom Method you will want to practice for 5-15 minutes every day on your own. Much of the work takes place on the floor, so the only physical requirement to practice is a little bit of open floor space, and the ability to get down to and up from it. It is possible to practice on a large firm mattress if necessary.
